Types of Jewelry Armoires

If you’re looking to buy a nice jewelry armoire, did you know that there are actually two main styles you can choose from? We can broadly classify these two styles, based on their radically different designs, into two categories. The first one is what we’ll call a free standing design, or a stand alone jewelry armoire. These are the jewelry armoires that rest on the floor and are not attached or installed into anything. This is the style of armoire most people imagine when they think of jewelry armoires. The second style is that of a wall mounting jewelry armoire. This is the style not as much people are familiar with. Let’s take a closer look at these two types, starting with the lesser known style.
The Wall Mounting Jewelry Armoire
A wall mounted jewelry armoire is best for a person who needs to have a safe and secure spot to store their jewelry collection, but either doesn’t have or doesn’t want to use any additional floor space in the bedroom to do so. Since the armoire is mounted into the wall, many people also find it convenient to mount in areas other than the bedroom, such as the bathroom or even a large walk in closet. Mahogany jewelry armoire furniture is probably the most popular of all types for the wall mounted design, followed by oak and wormwood.
The Free Standing Jewelry Armoire
The term “free standing” simply designates that this style of jewelry armoire stands on its own, like most cabinets and armoire are designed to do so. The classic look consists of a narrow armoire about 3-5 feet tall, with a series of shelves down the middle. The top shelf usually open to reveal a hidden mirror, whereas the sides of the armoire nearly always open up for additional hidden storage as well. Solid colors make for the most popular color choices, the two of which being what you might expect: either black or white. Because of the popularity of this design, the price range has gone down a bit. For example, this solid yet inexpensive white jewelry armoire from Target costs under $300, making it one of the more popular mass produced jewelry armoies on the market today.
